What is Therapy?

Therapy is a space to talk openly about what’s going on in your life, with someone who listens carefully and without judgement. It offers time to explore your thoughts, feelings, and emotional responses, as well as patterns in how you relate to yourself and others. Through this process, you can begin to better understand yourself and find a way forward that feels more considered and meaningful.

How I work

I offer weekly online sessions, usually at the same time each week, lasting 50 minutes. This consistency can help create a sense of stability and continuity. I can also offer more frequent or longer sessions if needed. In most cases, I work in an open-ended way, meaning we continue for as long as it feels helpful, and you decide when you’re ready to finish.

My approach to therapy is warm, active, and collaborative. I’m not someone who sits silently and simply nods, I engage with you in the process, sharing reflections, observations, and questions to help you see things more clearly. At times, this may include gentle challenge where it feels appropriate.

In the early sessions, the focus is on getting to know each other and building a sense of trust. You don’t need to have everything figured out when you start. Often, this stage is about exploring what’s brought you here and what you’d like to change or understand more deeply.

As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of approaches and adapt how I work to suit you. Some sessions may focus on exploring your past and understanding patterns, while others may be more present-focused or oriented towards change. We shape the work together, rather than following a fixed structure. I’m influenced by therapists such as Carl Rogers and Irvin Yalom, and place particular importance on the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for meaningful change.

I have over 20 years’ experience working across therapy and social care, in both frontline and leadership roles. Earlier in my career, I supported people facing complex challenges, including mental health difficulties, substance misuse, experiences of abuse, and homelessness. I later managed a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation service before moving into senior management within social care.

This breadth of experience has given me a grounded, real-world understanding of the difficulties people face, as well as the resilience they bring. It also shapes how I work today—I aim to respond to you as an individual, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, drawing on the depth of my experience and training.
